Gazidis believes Milan will achieve similar success to Liverpool by following Klopp’s blueprint

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan CEO Ivan Gazidis has pointed to the model Liverpool have deployed as the way forward for the Rossoneri in the future.

With Milan highly unlikely to achieve a top four finish this season for what would be the seventh season in a row, speculation is rife in the media at present suggesting that a revolution is on the cards this summer, with Gazidis leading the overhaul.

Stefano Pioli looks set to depart as head coach unless he somehow achieves a top four finish and/or wins the Coppa Italia, while there are also doubts about the likes of Paolo Maldini, Zvonomir Boban and sporting director Ricky Massara.

Gazidis seems to know the model he wants Milan to follow, as the former Arsenal chief pointed to the current Premier League leaders.

The South African believes the blueprint laid by Klopp – who led Liverpool to their first Champions League title in 14 years last season and currently holds a 22-point gap at the top of the Premier League – is the way forward.

“Liverpool spent nine years in a situation similar to ours,” Gazidis told La Gazzetta dello Sport (via ESPN).

“When Klopp arrived, he said he would make the sceptics believe; no one believed it at the beginning, not even the fans. Today, we can see what Liverpool are. Soon, you will see what Milan are.”
