Gazidis: “We all have great pride in having done something special”

AC Milan CEO Ivan Gazidis has branded the Scudetto win as a ‘team effort’ and one in which the squad overcame ‘a lot of difficulties’.

Milan went into their final game of the season against Sassuolo knowing that a draw would be enough to be crowned Scudetto winners for the first time since the 2010-11 campaign and they would do more than enough, triumphing 3-0 in Reggio Emilia.

The contest was over by half-time as Rafael Leao twice set up Olivier Giroud for near-post finishes and then got his third assist by teeing up Franck Kessie for the third goal as the over 18,000 Milan fans inside the stadium went into raptures.

This morning president Paolo Scaroni and the CEO Gazidis were present at Casa Milan for a meeting with the media after winning the 19th Scudetto, which came with yesterday’s victory at Mapei Stadium against Sassuolo.

“Thank you all for joining us in this special season. We did a real team effort, all together, even with our fans who pushed us at every step, in every difficulty, and there have been a lot of difficulties this season, both on and off the pitch,” Gazidis said (via MilanNews).

“But in the end we all have great pride in having done something special, but also in how we did it, because I think we tried to do it by following the values of the club, without complaints and without regrets. In the end I believe that this group of guys, this team, the staff, the coach and above all the fans really deserve it.”
