Davide Frattesi of US Sassuolo

GdS: The background on Milan’s attempt for Frattesi and why they quickly withdrew

Inter have won the battle to sign Davide Frattesi from Inter, although in the end it was a battle that never really got going because AC Milan quickly withdrew.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport (seen below), Milan CEO Giorgio Furlani had lunch with his Sassuolo counterpart Giovanni Carnevali and Frattesi’s agent Giuseppe Riso at ‘Consolare’, a restaurant in Brera in the heart of Milan.

They spoke about Frattesi, but it didn’t get very far once it became apparently Sassuolo were asking for a sum exceeding €30m and Milan weren’t willing to ‘go crazy’ or participate in an auction.

Furlani probed the ground for a possible negotiation, premising that Sassuolo’s evaluation was considered excessive, Carnevali reiterated that these were the club’s requests they would not change.

No offers were made by the Rossoneri, while Carnevali was also honest with Furlani and stated that Inter had a big advantage and the player was very much hoping to move there.

Nothing came of yesterday’s meeting, therefore, but the CEOs of Milan and Sassuolo have laid the foundations for a relationship that could lead to new operations between the two clubs in the future.

  1. Couldn’t they just had had the discussion on Whatsapp weeks ago in a matter of seconds and not wasting time?

S: “We’re probably selling to Inter and we want more than you are willing to pay”
M: OK. Have a nice day.
    S: You too.

  2. Frattesi, last season 7 g ZER0 assists, a midfielder, in 2900 minutes. Previous year 4g 4 a, in almost 3000 minutes, price over 30 mil.
Just for comparison, one of our own, Tommaso Pobega in 21-22 as a part time starter at Torino ,4 g, 3 a, in 2200 minutes. Same g/a production as Frattesi, in 700 minutes less.
If Milan switches to a 3 man midfield Pobega will be an important player next season. The double pivot doesn’t suit him but in 3 man he will shine.
We already have a Frattesi in our squad. No need to spend 30+ mil
Also, Lazar Samardzic, almost 3 years younger that Frattesi, in 1800 minutes last season had 5g, 4 a, and his price is supposedly 18-20 mil. Get us Samardzic

    1. Pobega is completely underrated. I am telling this all the time. People who think he is not good because he is not quick or something just dont understand football. Look at the goals he scored. If he would not be quick enough he would not even be there to score. I hope he will get more central role in Milan. He is immensely better than CDK (at least now) Adli, Vranx etc.

      1. And top of that he was played out of position 90% of the time and still managed to score more goals than CDK & Origi combined!

    2. Right, Pobega flopped last season because he was played in double pivot instead of his best position as CM in 3-person midfield. If Pioli want to change to 4-3-3, no need to sign Fratessi, just return Pobega to his best position.

  3. It puzzles me what sort of guarantees other teams put in place to initiate talks, and come back weeks or months later to close a deal. Milan talks to a player and if they put the deal on the back burner then the player gets offered to other teams. The Kamada lead went cold, he is being ship around by his agent, Inter stalled on Frattesi, but player, club and agent wait for them. Is there something we are doing wrong that players get snapped up from under our noses? Do we give the right kind of signals and guarantees as other teams? Or has everyone figured us out and pounce evrytime we delay knowing we are not much of a threat. It takes forever to close deals with Milan…

  4. Sassuolo always labels their players overprice, but no one succeded after out from Sassuolo. Look at Scamacca and that curly juve players from Sassuolo..

  5. Nothing surprise here. Player from the beginning already choosen his club before AC Milan ,Roma,Juve enter bid . His price from 40m euro reduced to 30m euro later become lower due to lacking suitor. Avoid doing business with sassoulo ,

  6. Another shocking decision LOLOLOLO. This time I’m glad we dodged this bullet. He’s overrated at 35-40M. Curious that Everyone but Furlani knew his asking price was over 30M – yet Georgio believed he could convince Sassuolo to sell for less…..like they ever do hmmmm. Waste of time Georgie boy. Just close the Reijnders, Chucky and Musah deals then move towards a real striker pls
