GdS: Bennacer ready for comeback after six months out – midfield fully restocked

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan head coach Stefano Pioli will welcome Ismael Bennacer into his matchday squad for the first time in half a year for tonight’s game against Frosinone.

La Gazzetta dello Sport (as seen below) takes stock of Milan ahead of the match against Frosinone. In the midst of the storm of injuries, the best news yet comes out of the infirmary as Bennacer is back ahead of schedule.

The Milan midfielder hasn’t set foot on the pitch since May 10, when he suffered a serious injury to his right knee in the first leg of the Champions League semi-final against Inter. He underwent surgery a few days after, and 206 days later he is back on the squad list.

Milan now have an abundance of players for the midfield as Bennacer joins Adli, Krunic, Musah, Pobega, Reijnders and Loftus-Cheek. Soon Bennacer could find his role as the team’s starting regista again, but the Africa Cup of Nations will begin on January 13th in Ivory Coast and Bennacer could be called up by Algeria.

If he is called up, Milan will have no right to oppose the participation of one of its players in an official tournament. As for tonight, he will start on the bench but could come on in the second half.
