AC Milan must resolve the future of several players who are returning from their loan spells, and one of them is centre-back Mattia Caldara.
As La Gazzetta dello Sport (via MilanNews) are reporting, Giovanni Sartori should be officially announced either today or tomorrow as the new sporting director of Bologna and one of his first jobs will be to sign a new centre-back.
As per the report, one idea could be Milan’s Mattia Caldara, who was out on loan at Venezia this season but they suffered relegation to Serie B. The former Atalanta man still has a one-year contract with the Rossoneri but they do not see him as part of the plans moving forward.
Caldara was signed by Milan back in August 2018 on a five-year contract for €35m payable over two years, with Leonardo Bonucci moving the other way to Juventus after an unsuccessful one season stay at Milan (via Wiki).
To think he is one of the most expenssive players milan ever bought due to the valuation of bonucci when we swapped players and the fact that he never played a serie a match for us is mind blowing.
That whole Bonucci and Higueain was one of the more painful debacles over the last ten years.
absolutely Nelli imagine maldini and massara/moncada having such cash available then we would have been out of our slump far earlier. I do feel very sorry for the kid though as he was a very hopefull talent when he arrived at the club and on paper he was destined to become an asset rather than the chain he turned out to be.
Never sign ex-zebras. They spoil players. I think that Higuain broke our young Cutrone.
Have never heard of this guy. Can’t believe Milan payed 35 million for him. So stupid to pay that price to Juventus. I hope Milan never buys a juventus player ever again. Not based on this. Just generally against giving them anything.
You’ve never heard of Mattia Caldara? Do you even watch Serie A?
I’ve watched every Milan game the last 3 years. Before that I had a break where I didn’t watch at all. So he was in Milan before my interest came back. It seems I didn’t miss too much from this guy in Milan at least.
One of the biggest mistake made by previous Milan management. Good thing they’re not in Milan anymore.
People are being a bit rough on Caldara. When he signed for Milan he was a top prospect. Had anyone really heard of Romagnoli when Milan paid 30m to sign him at age 20? Caldara is a capped Italy international (before Milan) and has had two devastating knee injuries since joining the club and has never been able to establish himself. I think this past season at Venezia was his first full season healthy since he signed. Think Zaniolo at Roma, in terms of missing time, minus the flash that comes with being an attacking player which is why “nobody” has heard of him. It’s really too bad.
