AC Milan midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu is earning admirers in Germany amid uncertainty over his future, a report claims.
Despite showing signs in preseason so far that he can adapt to Marco Giampaolo’s favoured 4-3-1-2 system, Calhanoglu is not certain to have a starting spot come the beginning of the season.
A report from MilanNews.it on Monday suggested that the Turkey international is behind Lucas Paqueta as the starting mezz’ala on the left side, while Suso is currently set to be the trequartista.
As a result, the former Leverkusen man risks having his opportunities reduced from last season, when he started 34 of 38 games in Serie A.
According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, the 25-year-old is assessing his options ahead of the new season and has several admirers in the Bundesliga.
He has already played for Karlsruher, Hamburger SV and Bayer Leverkusen, meaning a return to Germany would not be unfamiliar territory.
Calhanoglu arrived at Milan in 2017 for a fee of €20m, and has gone on to amass 12 goals and 24 assists in 91 competitive games.
