Samuel Chukwueze was the marquee signing of AC Milan’s summer window in the eyes of many, but he is yet to make a start.
Today’s La Gazzetta dello Sport (seen below) dedicates a section to Chukwueze, who was acquired from Villarreal for €28m including bonuses after a long negotiation during the summer window.
When factoring in those bonuses, he was the most expensive signing of the 10 that the management made in the summer but he has so far played only 54 minutes in the three Serie A matches against Bologna, Torino and Roma.
However, it must be noted that Christian Pulisic has started very well since his arrival from Chelsea having netted in both of the first two games.
Chukwueze is asking for space because he wants to play more. He is currently with the Nigeria national team and will play against São Tomé and Principe on Sunday, then he will be back at Milanello.
From the beginning of next week he will be at the training ground to prepare for the games against Inter and Newcastle, and the paper predicts that he could start the derby on the bench and then be in the XI against the Magpies.
In the meantime, Pulisic will be the last player in the squad to return from his commitments with the national teams. He will play the second of two matches for the United States of America – against Oman – on Tuesday night.
On Wednesday he will travel back to Italy and on Thursday he will be at Milanello. He will not actually have time to train and if he does start in the derby, he is unlikely to do so from the start in the following match.
We must not create drama where there is none. Its a long season, he will get his chance. Its a squad game. Pulisic started well and Chukwueze didn’t have a preseason with Milan. Patience is required.
Yes patience is needed ..pulisic has started like a train just can’t leave pulisic out at this moment in time .
Chukwueze will get his chance ..
We have so many games coming up ,and players must be rotated at some stage..
This of course is down to management to decide.
Yes patience, but we still need to play the guy, so we can see what’s he’s capable of doing, I don’t want to Waite on when we need him and then realize he needs more playing time, play him now so we know what type of player we’ve got.
