GdS: Close friends and family plus a decade of hard work – background on Daniel Maldini’s rise

By Oliver Fisher -

Daniel Maldini’s path from being a youth player to making his first Serie A start for the Rossoneri has not exactly been a rollercoaster like it would be for a lot of players.

La Gazzetta dello Sport (via PianetaMilan) writes how Maldini Jr. scored his first ever goal for the club against Spezia on Saturday and received an avalanche of phone calls and messages of congratulations, from hisfather Paolo, from Valentina Giacinti – the captain of AC Milan Women – and also from his mother Adriana.

Stefano Pioli deserved praise for having managed him well and launched him at the right moment, the paper mentions, but his team-mates also love him and encourage him. He has made sacrifices and knows that dedication is required, as a surname can only take you so far.

Having entered the Milan academy in 2010, when his grandfather Cesare pointed him out to Mauro Bianchessi, Maldini therefore played for ten years on the fields of every age group up to Serie A, but also in the Champions League.

He will soon celebrate his 20th birthday but he has not gotten his driver’s license yet. He often comes to training with his team-mates, never with his father. He lives with his family, he does not have a girlfriend that is known of and so he spends his free time with friends.

Maldini is only a teenager but has shown an immense maturity to work hard and keep his feet firmly on the ground.
