GdS: From Dortmund to Naples – Milan’s October a ‘monster to be handled with care’

AC Milan’s calendar for October is not straightforward, and they face four big tests in their next five games, a report has outlined.

La Gazzetta dello Sport describes Milan’s schedule for the week ahead as a ‘monster to be handled with care’. The win against Lazio helped keep confidence high, but there is little time to enjoy it because on Wednesday a trip to Germany awaits.

The Rossoneri will be in Champions League action against Borussia Dortmund in the presence of the Yellow Wall, hoping to get three points to kick start their European journey and make qualification a bit easier.

That will be a game that requires a certain level of intensity which comes after the win against Lazio which also took a lot out of the team. In the present moment, however, Pioli’s rotations and a strong self-esteem found after the derby put his team in a good position to handle such a daunting game.

Then, the level of difficulty returns to full scale until the end of the month. After the break on October 15th there will be Juventus at home (Sunday 22nd), PSG away (Wednesday 25th) and Napoli again away (Sunday 29th).

The game against Juve will be billed as a potential Scudetto duel, while in Paris the most complicated test of the Champions League groups will come along and then it goes without saying that the Napoli match is a high-stakes affair.

Milan are able to face the next four weeks with the belief that they can compete on all stages thanks to their post-derby upturn, but the fixtures will test the group to the limits.

  1. This is some crazy a** schedule – what the hell’s going on? I’ve always hated Juventus probably as much as Inter but now Napoli are right up there with them. Going to be a nerve wracking few weeks.

  2. We have the squad for it. All the reserves have stepped up and played well, Musah, Adli, Okafor, Chukwueze. Sportiello Defence is the scary area…

  3. What I’m concerned about is the next international fixture this month in October.
Pulisic and Musah will almost certainly get called in to play against Germany and Ghana in two friendlies.
In past years, Germany would call in the scrubs and youth players in their matches against the USMNT, but of late, their National Team has been struggling, Hansi Flick got fired, and this will be Julian Nagelsmann’s first match in charge as the head coach.
I’m pretty sure that Nagelsmann is not going to want to lose to the USMNT in his first match in charge of Die Mannschaft. So there are going to be some really good players coming in on the German side.
At the same time, Gregg Berhalter, the numbnuts who got re-hired by the USSF to be the coach again despite opposition from practically EVERBODY except the USSF’s MLS masters, is probably going to go all out to try to prove something with this meaningless match (for the USMNT, since it has automatic qualification already to the 2026 World Cup as a co-host, and can’t possibly miss out like it did in 2018)
So, given his past history (yes, he did this before to Pulisic in the 2022 qualifier against Honduras), he’ll probably get both Pulisic and Musah injured in these meaningless matches.
Yeah, I’m just posting this as a heads up.
