AC Milan remain a work in progress under Paulo Fonseca and there are various knots that must be untied during the United States tour, a report has stated.
As La Gazzetta dello Sport write, Fonseca said in a press conference that he is distancing himself from Pioli. “We will defend differently from last season, I don’t want to make comparisons but it will be different, we have to improve in this if we want to win.”
Milan are becoming more conservative defensively, they want to attack high to recover the ball early but they will not defend man to man all over the pitch like they often did under Pioli. The field will provide answers, while waiting for other news.
The central topic for many Milan fans, however, is the mercato. Milan confirmed their ‘no panic’ mantra after the signing of Alvaro Morata, while talks continue with Red Bull Salzburg over Strahinja Pavlovic and Monaco over Youssouf Fofana.
Both want to join Milan, as does Emerson Royal who is another target. Tottenham are determined not to sell at the price offered by Milan, under €15m, but talks will continue in the next few days to try find a meeting point.
Another aspect to talk about is the balance of the team. Olivier Giroud and Simon Kjaer have left, the wise men of the dressing room, while captain Davide Calabria has not found an agreement for a renewal.
In short, Fonseca and the management are looking for new leaders of the locker room. Three great candidates: Mike Maignan for his natural charisma; Fikayo Tomori for the signs of a vocal leader and for a growth in leadership seen last season and Morata because of his experience.
We had 57% possession against City, which against a Guardiola side, is very impressive.
Against a Guardiola youth side…. You play their senior team and we won’t get anywhere close. Read the game.
You guys always look for any small details to try to trash any encouraging work done by a coach or the management. If Manchester City had won, you all would point out the very negative narrative. Milan also had a lot of player from the Youth: Liberali, Colombo,Nasti, the goalkeeper and so on plus the bench players.
Hoping for the management and the coach to is hoping for Milan to fail.
How can you love Milan if you want them to fail just to prove point?
Tomori a leader with his no-brain 🤯, downfall coming
Tomori can not be a captain because he is a calamity in defense. He needed Kjaer/Kessie to bark him into shape.
Let Milan be serious in the macarto. Secondly, let players like Calabria leave for more dynamic full backs.
