Fonseca promises a Milan ‘that dominates’ and says Pulisic ‘can play as a No.10’

By Isak Möller -

Ahead of the game between AC Milan and Manchester City, which is scheduled for 00:00 CEST, Paulo Fonseca spoke to the media about various topics. He promised change from the previous management and also touched on Christian Pulisic’s role.

The game against Man City will be Fonseca’s second in charge of the team. The first ended in a 1-1 draw against Rapid Wien and he will be hoping for a win tonight. Christian Pulisic, who spoke to CBS Mornings yesterday, has joined the group in training and will be available.

Speaking at the press conference yesterday, as transcribed by Gazzetta dello Sport (see photo below) and MilanReports, Fonseca discussed the style of play he wants for Milan. He also confirmed that Pulisic could play as a No.10 in his system.

On the style of play…

“I can guarantee you 100% that you will see an attacking Milan, which dominates the matches, recovers the ball quickly and makes the fans proud. We will defend differently from last season, I don’t want to make comparisons but it will be different, we have to improve if we want to win

On talents…

“For me, players have no age: if they have quality and courage, they play.”

On the difference between Serie A and Ligue 1…

“The games have changed a lot in the last seasons. In Italy, not different, I was in France for two years, and I didn’t see all the games in Italy but I see some differences. The other day, I saw Como, who were promoted to Serie A, and offensively, they are very very strong…”

On Pulisic’s position…

“I think Christian can play as a No.10. RLC also can play in that position.”

It remains to be seen what the starting XI will look like for the game, but Gazzetta dello Sport is reporting that Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Fikayo Tomori are certain to start. Having just joined the team, Pulisic will likely be on the bench.

  1. Maybe keep Saelemakers?! have 5 wingers of Leao, Puli, Chukwe, Okafor, Saelemakers but have midfield which is a bit more problematic right now at 6. Bennacer, Musah, Reijnders, RLC and bring 2 defensive players real 6s or 6/8 hybrids. Ricci and Fofana would be great deals for 20-25M each, Torino would also take Pobega back.

Keeping Saelemakers could also help us sometimes play with 3-4-3, or even test him as RB.

  2. Pulisic’s would NOT get in any other top team and more than likely not even there bench so why is he still at the club?

I really hope I’m proved wrong and that the club is successful on all fronts but I’ve got to say having been a supporter of over 30 years this squad isn’t fit for purpose worryingly however due to the state of Italian football good enough to keep getting ucl position.

I see Gerry /Elliot have been talking again regarding financial aspects ect worryingly he’s never there regards the team ie manager oppointment /new players /bringing Ac milan facilities back to the very top all of which are very important moving forward.

    1. Pulisic had a fantastic first season and wad probably the best steal in that windows given how inform he was. 15 goals 11 assists is nothing to scoff at..he had more goals as a midfielder for AC Milan since Kaka..

  3. “you will see an attacking Milan, which dominates the matches, recovers the ball quickly and makes the fans proud.”

Not with the players we have though.

  4. The key os to get players, improve them and get the most out of them. It is NOT being wastedul and paying stupid amount of players withe flavor of the week.

Prime bad example are Man U, just see what Atalanta, Bologna, Leverkusen have done last season. They didnt go after big name signings. Dortmund never does

Enogh of this cry baby mentality, I am sick and tired of hearing a continuous cry. Berlusconi era of the type of football is gone looiing time ago.

    1. M.City Madrid, psg, liverpool does over past seasons and they wn trophies .

Its not bout top players with names but young quality players…. this far from what milan management are doing

  5. Yes finally Pulisic No. 10. I will expect Chukwueze, Pulisic, Leao behind Alvaro Morata.

So our pivots are : Tijjani Reijnders – Ruben Loftus-Cheeks. Covered by Ismael Bennacer – Tomasso Pobega. And Florenzi will be one of the additional mid because he has immense quality but always low appeareances each season due to injuries.

Sadly, it means Yacine Adli will out, because his number already taken by Alvaro Morata too and use no. 94 in preseason. It’s very strong sign he will leave.

So i wonder about RW cover, Will Mattia Liberali ready to cover ?
