GdS: Future plans and attack vs. defence – the three key themes of Atalanta-Milan

By Oliver Fisher -

Tonight’s huge game between AC Milan and Atalanta can be summarised in three themes, according to a report.

As La Gazzetta dello Sport writes, Milan are 90 minutes from the end of the season and if they can get another three points, they will no doubt be the biggest of the season so far, of course with the results of Bologna-Juve and Napoli-Verona also important.

Pride and targets: In front of Milan is an Atalanta wounded by another defeat in the final of the Coppa Italia, but still looking for a historic achievement as second place would be enough for La Dea to secure their highest ever finish in the league.

Defence and attack: Among the many themes of the match, the battle between the Atalanta attack and the Rossoneri defence is also interesting. Milan have four consecutive clean sheets, a seasonal record, but they must stop the best attacking department in Serie A (90 goals). Kjaer and Tomori will have the job of giving Gianluigi Donnarumma a quiet evening by nullifying Zapata and Muriel.

The future: Atalanta-Milan is worth a lot for the Rossoneri as the Champions League means everything. The summer market would be affected by a possible “relegation” to the Europa League, although the project remains valid regardless of the result of the Gewiss Stadium. With top four though, perhaps even more than money, helps keep champions like Donnarumma and attracts the highest level players in the world.
