GdS: The €50m ‘outsider’ in Milan’s mission to sign a new striker

AC Milan are continuing their hunt for a new centre-forward, and the management are working to try and identify the right profile and the right deal.

This morning’s edition of La Gazzetta dello Sport (seen below) reports that Milan are now close to being declared out of the Joshua Zirkzee race due to the commissions that his entourage are asking for and the fact Bayern Munich are strongly considering bringing him back for €25m.

The paper goes on to talk about who the alternative names might be for Geoffrey Moncada and his team, such as Stuttgart’s Serhou Guirassy, RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko and Lille’s Jonathan David.

Much like Paulo Fonseca’s name was in the new head coach discussions, there is a name in the background that will not go away and that is the ‘outsider’ Santiago Gimenez.

The Mexico international at Feyenoord scored 23 goals in 30 games in the Eredivisie last season. From Cruz Azul, he moved to Rotterdam in the summer of 2022 meaning Milan would be his first top club.

However, the Rossoneri are not the only ones who have noticed him because various top European clubs have scouted him this season, while the Dutch side have set an asking price of €50m. The budget is there for Milan, though.

  1. Max 25-30 million… Its a player with potential, but the last half year he played very badly, and that’s in the Dutch competition.

  2. 50m never played for a top club, only played in Mexico and Holland….what could go wrong !!??

Here’s a thought, why not spend that 50m on someone who plays and scores in serie A on a regular basis…..Scamacca

    It’s not rocket science ??!!

  3. Maybe we should go for depay. At least if he flops we won’t burn 50M€ and he could always be used on the wings as well. Depay on free. Pavlidis for 20-25M.

    1. This. Depay is still quality and free. And why isn’t anyone talking about Pavlidis? He’s better than Giménez imo.

      1. Same as Giroud at Chelsea , right?

Quality is quality and Depay has it. He just needs the minutes to prove it. He managed 9 goals for patetiko as a sub. Not bad, a?

    1. Broja already dealt with multiple injuries, including one ligament tear in his young career. Seems risky.

Besides, he can’t nail a spot in a struggling Fulham side and you want him to lead us?

If he is cheap and bought as subs instead of Jovic then probably yes. But if we only buy 1 striker, big NO.

      1. No no I don’t want him at all….I just have my red bird head on….this is what our expectations should be. Sesko…Zirkzee are no chance. Jonathan David is the best we can get in my opinion and I like him. Either that or we take someone from a club who is signing a new player (Vlahovic if Juve get Zirkzee)

Giminez is a good option though. There are no guarantees, Darwin Nunez may be a other one if Liverpool decide to cash in. All depends on their new coach

        1. Vlahovic is on the highest salary in Serie A at the moment, the only way Juve can move him on is to England

The only reason Munich takes Zirkzee back is to sell him on at a profit, he’s not getting into a team that Harry Kane is in, unless the idea is he’s Thomas Muller’s replacement as a backup.

          1. If BM get Zirkzee, they will deploy him as a winger. Kane is the unquestionable centre forward, and Musiala behind him as attacking mildfielder.

      2. Broja is very fast and strong, and good at 1 vs 1. He just needs to be coached by a decent coach. Pocchetino wanted to keep him at Chelsea, but the club loaned him to Fulham. At Fulham Muniz suddenly started to perform, so they played their own player to raise his value instead of playing Broja. Since Milan do not want to spend much, buying a talent and developing him could be the best path for them. At 25 mln Broja would be worth trying.

        1. Enough of Broja, yeah he’s good, but we all know he’s injury prone, and Milan Lab is useless when dealing with injured player

  4. €10M for Tiago Santos
€30M + Kalulu for Leny Yoro
    €20M + Adli for Fofana
    €40M for Zirkzee
    Thats €100M !!
Damn my FM brains is faster rather than Moneyball Moncada.
    Peaceee I’m out !!

    1. Lille: “we think we can get 20m from England for Tiago Santos if we loan him with conditional obligations and Liverpool or Man Utd will give us 50m cash plus bonuses for Yoro”

Kalulu: “I don’t want to move to France, I think it would be bad for my career”

Fofana: “Arsenal want me so I’m waiting to see what they offer”

Zirkzee’s agents: “We’re not moving on the 15m commission, so take it or leave it”

      Next turn

      1. Let me try some FM transfer fantasy!

Budget 80M: 50M plus 30M from selling CDK, Salad and Colombo.

        20M Kiwior
        10M new backup LB
        15M Renato Veiga
        35M Lukaku

80M total spent, no major sales.

          1. Strong experienced striker who physically dominates most defenders, can score and has Serie A experience? Yeah no, let’s go for David or some guy who will cost 80M. “😂”

  5. Enough of Broja, yeah he’s good, but we all know he’s injury prone, and Milan Lab is useless when dealing with injured player

  6. Sure, because when getting a €40 million forward is proving difficult, they’re going to a sign a player from a crap league for 10 million more!

  7. If you’re getting worked up about someone being “close to being declared out of the race” for some player, then you need to take a step back. Or five.
