GdS: How Milan should line up against Salernitana – Bennacer back after 7 months

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan head coach Stefano Pioli seems to have made his final decision regarding the line-up that will take to the field against Salernitana tomorrow night.

According to Luca Bianchin of La Gazzetta dello Sport, the rearguard in front of Mike Maignan is as expected with Davide Calabria returning at right-back after serving a suspension, Simon Kjaer and Fikayo Tomori the centre-backs and Theo Hernandez at left-back.

As Pioli confirmed in his pre-match press conference, Ismael Bennacer will start at the base of a midfield three and he will be flanked by Ruben Loftus-Cheek on one side and Tijjani Reijnders on the other in what is a 4-3-3 system.

In attack it will be the ‘Pu-Gi-Le’ trio of Christian Pulisic on the right, Olivier Giroud down the middle and Rafael Leao on the left, with Samuel Chukwueze and Luka Jovic available to come off the bench.

Tommaso Pobega and Noah Okafor are the latest to join Marco Sportiello, Marco Pellegrino, Pierre Kalulu, Malick Thiaw, Mattia Caldara and Yunus Musah on the injured list.

  1. Pioli is stupid useless coach. Why he bench fresh player like adli and push player like reinders? Also giroud. Lot of injuries happened because pioli never rotate player. He play the same player ever game until they injure.

        1. And of those minutes did the earth move under you feet?

I feel bad for him, he didn’t get more minutes and he is a feel good story but I don’t think he’ll carve out enough space at Milan…

          1. I am not sure if he ever played un an advanced role. His minutes came playing in a deeper lying position.

I’d love to see him as a 10.

    1. Because Reijnders played much better than Adli, offensively and defensively and that’s a FACT.

Giroud our best striker with 9 goals and 5 assist.

Pioli rotate many times but players got injured. And many injured happened outside of Pioli control because of national team and the opponent teams playing rough. Pioli isn’t a fairy godmother who can magically prevents all injuries, you piece of sh*t.

      1. So how many minutes did Adli play in an advanced position. Reijndeers isn’t all that great defensively. Sorry, I can’t agree with you on that.

  2. Why is Jovic not playing from the beginning? Giroud wasnt that good the last few games and Jovic was flourishing the last 2-3 games . But Pioli loves it also loves his captain Calabria who is the weakest in the Starting team.

  3. Jovic has to start surely. We have limited time before January market to know what we need.
Simic also should start in a game like this against a weak opponent.
If they do well again, maybe we can hold off until summer for new players.
Except DM – that needs to be addressed

  4. Pioli is still rigid with his line ups… I get he wants consistency with victories, but he needs to rotate more.

Jovic doesn’t have the same chemistry with Leao and Puli that Giroud has, but his form has been improving. And Salernitana are not Inter.

    1. Rotation is needed when we plays every 3-4 days. But between Monza and Salernitana, it’s pretty much a week where players have enough resting time.

And who’s gonna start also decided with two factors: their match fitness and how well they did in training.

Last. Sure Salernitana isn’t Inter but we can’t underestimate them at all. Look how Frosinone slaughtered Napoli 4-0 and Bologna beat Inter 2-1.
