GdS: Certainties and doubts – how Milan should line-up against Inter

AC Milan are a team with more doubts than certainties at the moment, and that extends to team selection for the second leg on Tuesday night.

La Gazzetta dello Sport writes that Stefano Pioli is currently battling two different problems: he must understand who is able and can start from a physical point of view, but he must also evaluate who is mentally ready for such an occasion.

In defence there are three players sure of a start: Davide Calabria, Theo Hernandez and Fikayo Tomori. Next to Tomori right now the favourite seems to be Malick Thiaw, preferred to both Simon Kjaer and Pierre Kalulu.

Without Ismael Bennacer and with doubts about Rade Krunic’s fitness, there are some doubts about the midfield. There is optimism the Bosnian can recover from a slight knee issue and take the field next to Sandro Tonali, otherwise it will be Tommaso Pobega.

Alexis Saelemaekers should start on the right and Brahim Diaz as the playmaker, while there will be the return of Rafael Leao on the left based on what Pioli has said and the signs from Milanello. It goes without saying that Olivier Giroud will have to lead the line.

Official Milan XI (4-2-3-1): Maignan; Calabria, Thiaw (Kalulu), Tomori, Theo; Tonali, Krunic (Pobega); Saelemaekers, Brahim, Leao; Giroud.
