GdS: Ibrahimovic could stay at Milan even under Rangnick – the player and Gazidis are open

By Oliver Fisher -

It is not yet ruled out that Zlatan Ibrahimovic could stay at AC Milan regardless of who is the next head coach, according to a report.

There is widespread speculation regarding the future of Ibrahimovic, who continues to train in Sweden with Hammarby until the official return to Milanello is confirmed.

Some outlets believe he will end his second spell at the Rossoneri after just a few months when the current campaign finishes, while some believe he wishes to stay for one more year at Milan.

According to Wednesday’s edition of La Gazzetta dello Sport (via MilanLive), it all starts with a meeting that will take place between the 38-year-old and club CEO Ivan Gazidis upon return to Italy.

There is total openness on the part of Ibrahimovic regarding a renewal and also of the club itself. The obstacle at the moment though is age, not salary.

In essence, the decision will be up to Ibrahimovic depending on the project that will be pitched to him. Co-existence with Ralf Rangnick – used to working with young players – is difficult, but it is said that he could remain as a veteran presence like Raul was under Rangnick at Schalke.

However, it is also worth noting that the best chance of him remaining is if Stefano Pioli were to stay on for another year as head coach.
