By Oliver Fisher -

Zlatan Ibrahimovic is due back into Milano on Monday, a report claims, but his future with AC Milan remains the subject of doubt.

According to Saturday’s edition of La Gazzetta dello Sport (via MilanLive), Ibra is due back in Italy within the next 72 hours but his stay with the Rossoneri could be short.

His contract that expires on June 30th next and, with obligatory extensions aside, the issue remains in the balance. The reason for the doubt is Ralf Rangnick, and while the prospective new Milan boss has nothing against Ibrahimovic, but the two characters seem to have incompatible characters on paper.

Rangnick would like to build a Milan side based around talented young players while Ibrahimovic, who will turn 39 next season, does not seem to fit these plans.

Nonetheless, Rangnick did welcome a 34-year-old Raul to Schalke 04 during his time in charge of the Bundesliga side, and he helped them to a German Cup win.

All will depend on a meeting with CEO Ivan Gazidis to find out what the plans of the club are for the summer and beyond.
