Serbian striker Luka Jovic is expected to get another start this week in the Coppa Italia quarter-finals as AC Milan take on Atalanta at San Siro.
According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Jovic will almost certainly be getting the nod from Stefano Pioli over Olivier Giroud.
Milan’s first Coppa Italia match of the season was against Cagliari last weekend and Jovic started there to give Giroud a rest. He took the opportunity by scoring twice in a 4-1 win over the Rossoblu.
Had he not scored in that game, there is a very good chance that Pioli would have played Giroud to give the Rossoneri a better chance against Atalanta.
As it is, the upturn in form from Jovic is likely to be rewarded. Pioli named a very young side against Cagliari, with two 18-year-olds and two 19-year-olds in the team.
Given the increased level of the opponent on January 10, the coach is expected to strike some sort of blend where he does rest some established stars but not as many as he did in the last round.
He made a slow start to his time at Milan but Jovic is now on five goals across Serie A and the Coppa Italia.
Great.
Go on score another few and save us the trouble of signing another striker!
He’s a really good striker, and when we sign another striker to replace Giroud, I’m sure that he will continue with is. Jovic and another younger striker will have us set for years to come.
Jovic always had that quality to be a top striker, but just needed the right environment. Real Madrid wasn’t it.
Fingers crossed.
You see we do agree on things.
It all depends on Jovic. If he is in good shape, if he is not overweight, if his training is adequate, then he can be a long-term solution. But that is decided in his head.
