GdS: Kessie’s ubiquitous presence seen again vs. Verona – his renewal must be a priority

By Oliver Fisher -

Franck Kessie was once again a strong contender for man of the match during yesterday’s 2-0 win over Hellas Verona.

As this morning’s edition of La Gazzetta dello Sport writes (via MilanNews), the goals from Krunic and Dalot were decisive, but it was Kessie who was again the author of another incredible performance as he dominated the midfield, recovered a lot of balls, formed an impassable shield with Meite and got involved in the build-up too.

The paper remarks how Kessie ‘seemed to have the gift of ubiquity’ because he was everywhere. In one glance you would see him shielding the back four, then a few seconds later he would be on the edge of the opponent’s penalty area. His physicality limited the threat of Barak, who was in excellent form.

Kessie has been a leader for a year, a role that was even more prominent yesterday as there was a lack of key men like Ibrahimovic, Calhanoglu and Theo Hernandez. The former Atalanta man took his team-mates by the hand and dragged them to victory, but Milan have to move to secure his contract expiring in June 2022.
