GdS: Leao to lead the line as Milan face test against Genoa to prove the deserve top four

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan will be looking to win their second league game on the spin when they take on Genoa today, and Rafael Leao will have a key role.

As La Gazzetta dello Sport (via MilanNews) writes this morning, it is another test without Zlatan Ibrahimovic for the Rossoneri, this time against Genoa. It will be up to Leao to show that he knows how to lead the line in the absence of the Swede, with the young forward preferred to Mario Mandzukic.

Today the target is one and only one: to follow up on the win against Parma and find the kind of consistency that would show they deserve a top four spot. Pioli will rely on the youngest team in the league and on Leao, who is seventeen years younger than Ibrahimovic.

In his pre-match press conference, the head coach said the following: “We have to attack with more conviction. I’m happy with Leao’s growth, you can see it in the will he puts into the game.” The coach and Milan expect a lot from the Portuguese, who today will have the opportunity to show off in a role that he may not particularly like but that he knows and can play.
