GdS: Lenglet more feasible than Arsenal man in Milan’s centre-back pursuit

By Ben Dixon -

A week before the January mercato, AC Milan’s defensive crisis claimed its latest victim, Fikayo Tomori. As a result, it means the Rossoneri will have no option but to recruit two central defenders in the window.

There seems to be no method of avoidance when it comes to injuries in Milan’s central defensive ranks, as Tomori has joined Malick Thiaw and Pierre Kalulu on the sidelines, and it will be some time before we see any of the three back on the field for the Rossoneri.

Gazzetta dello Sport write that as a result, it is now pivotal that two central defenders arrive in January. The first is set to be Matteo Gabbia, who will return from his loan spell at Villarreal earlier than expected.

Though, the second addition still requires work, whichever route Milan take. Currently, the preference looks to be Clement Lenglet. However, there are challenges to overcome if the Diavolo are to land him.

He is currently on loan at Aston Villa, and whilst his parent club, Barcelona, are open to sending him to Milan. However, the English club are objecting to the idea, instead wishing for him to stay the entire length of the agreed loan – there is a belief that this could be overcome, though.

Whilst the Rossoneri’s interest in Jakub Kiwior remains intact, the chances of a move are slim. Arsenal are currently unwilling to send the Polish international on loan and do not seem as though they will change their stance.

  1. Well after his assist today and Emery’s recent words I doubt Lenglet is coming. We’re more likely to pick up Boateng, Phil Jones, Sakho or Mustafi as they’re all free right now. Wink wink if management is looking lol

  2. Lenglet on bench >> Aston Villa win, win, win, win, win…. Lenglet plays last two matches >> Aston Villa draw vs 20th team on table sheffield, and lose vs shameful United , coincidence??

    1. And he got those starts because his agent did the old indirect complaining to media about game time lol. Well there ya go.. Villa could have easily either be on top or 2nd. now they’re 3rd/4th

  3. Lenglet is garbage. This is typical of our management, they won’t look in Serie A. CB cover isn’t needed, we have Barteshagi and Simic.
