GdS: Loan hypothesis rekindled for Adli after disappointing display vs. PSV

By Oliver Fisher -

Yacine Adli disappointed during yesterday’s friendly match against PSV Eindhoven in the Netherlands, and now his future is up in the air once again.

La Gazzetta dello Sport report that Adli showed in the Netherlands what he has in his first few months in Italy, because at the moment he doesn’t do enough – or doesn’t have enough – to earn a place in a team fighting for the Scudetto.

His technical talent is not in question but Milan’s No.  is very light in the defensive phase and, even with the ball, is not very decisive. Pioli made him play together with Charles De Ketelaere against PSV, who shares some of Adli’s problems, with the Frenchman starting on the left side which is not a natural position.

The good signs seen in the retreat in Dubai were not maintained, and Pioli cannot wait for anyone given the desire to battle for the Scudetto, go further in the Champions League, win the Supercoppa and go far in the Coppa Italia.

Adli played just 115 minutes for Milan so far with just one start given Brahim Diaz, De Ketelaere and even Rade Krunic are ahead of him in the pecking order. Now, a loan seems the ideal solution again, especially to a Serie A club who could give him the time to adapt to Italian football.

Sampdoria seemed like a possible destination for a while, then Milan chose to keep him thinking he would get plenty of chances in the second part of the season. However, the game in Eindhoven raises doubts and the situation on the market is always fluid.

  1. Maybe we should loan out Origi and his 4M salary for doing nothing or Rebic for a far worse season than Adli’s with plenty more opportunities to play or end Brahim’s loan for having 5 good games per season since he joined, or Dest’s loan for playing like he’s learning to play football, or De Ketelaere, who realistically has not really done much more than Adli has also with more opportunities. The difference in quality between our starters and the subs is a night and day difference, that’s not good for a team that aims to be competitive, our right flank is still non existent, we only have two, maybe three players who really make a difference and when we don’t have them we become another Salernitana, we only have 1 reliable striker and he’s not getting any younger and I don’t know what’s happening with all these injuries season after season after season and nothing changes, but it’s about time they do something about it.
