GdS: Man Utd, Chelsea, PSG and Bayern the suitors for Milan star

By Oliver Fisher -

Mike Maignan showed why he is so in-demand on Saturday night’s win over Fiorentina by making a couple of decisive saves, and a report has outlined the teams that are keen on him.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, there are four teams above all from around Europe that stand out as being among the main suitors for Maignan, whose renewal situation is ‘complex’ due to his salary demands.

The first team mentioned are Bayern Munich, given that Manuel Neuer is 38 years old so they must eventually find his long-term heir, even if they have recently extended his contract again.

Then there is Manchester United, who are still having doubts about Andre Onana despite the amount that they spent to sign him from Inter last summer.

They are joined by Premier League rivals Chelsea, who believe they can improve in the role, and that also applies to PSG because although Gianluigi Donnarumma is doing better the idea of bringing Maignan back appeals.

How much would the renewal cost? Maignan is an elite level player in his position who can aspire to an agreement worth €8m net per season. Negotiations with his agent Jonathan Kebe have not yet come to fruition but Milan will certainly aim to close at lower prices.

What will be decisive? A particular factor: the ambitions of the club and the team that the managers will be able to build in the summer, because Maignan wants to challenge for and win trophies every year.

  1. Ok. bidding war? Not the worst situation. He should fetch a nice sum allowing Milan to pick up the next best up and coming keeper. If selling Mike means resigning Theo than it’s a sacrifice for the greater good.

  2. Out of those only Bayern would make sense. The rest is filler for the article.

United has worse projects than ours. Instead of hoping for CL glory, he will be hoping for a quota in the second/third tier of euro cups.

Chelsea don’t have a project at all, their only function is to overpay talented players, bring their values down, so we can build a reasonable team on discount.

PSG has younger and relatively equally talented goalkeeper. I would be very surprised if any world class keeper in the peak of their career would go there right now to split their time with Gigio.

  3. At least those team have money and could afford to pay Milan a decent price. Maybe that will keep Theão in the team next season too.
