GdS: Midfielder’s importance highlighted in four key areas as Milan plot renewal until 2026

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan realise the importance of midfielder Franck Kessie and want to lock him down with a new contract, according to a report.

As this morning’s edition of La Gazzetta dello Sport writes (via MilanNews), Pioli built his Milan side on solid foundations and one of the key pillars over the past year has been Kessié. The Ivorian is a leader in the locker room who – in the absence of Ibrahimovic – is not afraid to take on responsibilities and to carry the team.

He is a virtual certainty from the penalty spot (9 penalties scored out of 10 taken this season) and he knows how to command the midfield both with and without the ball. He has endurance having played 2,934 minutes this season, skipping only one match due to suspension as well as the ability to improve his team-mates like Bennacer, Tonali and Meité.

These are four key attributes that Milan are well aware of and the club intend to renew his contract expiring in June 2022 and the idea is already on the agenda of the Rossoneri management, who aim to extend his contract until 2026 (obviously also increasing his salary) to extinguish the interest of top clubs.
