GdS: Midfielder’s Milan return could happen – 50% ‘discount’ makes the deal possible

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan have once again been linked with the possibility of bringing midfielder Matteo Pessina back to the club.

As La Gazzetta dello Sport reports (via MilanNews), Pessina’s contract will expire in June 2022 and for the moment there is no news on his renewal with Atalanta. Milan are watching with great attention and in the summer they could make an attempt to bring him back to the San Siro, given they obtained a 50% resale clause back in 2017 when they sold him to Bergamo, which basically functions as a 50% off voucher now.

Pessina is having a great season with the Atalanta shirt and that is why the management are thinking about the idea of bringing him back to the club. His agent has been in talks with the Nerazzurri management for a long time to renew his contract, but for the moment the situation is blocked.

Milan are just observing because tension with Atalanta would not be ideal given Mattia Caldara’s future is also at stake, but Pessina is highly admired at Milanello and qualification for the Champions League would certainly be an important argument to convince him to accept the return to the Rossoneri. The Diavolo must raise the technical level of the squad and for this reason the eventual arrival of Pessina is not directly linked to the future of Hakan Calhanoglu.
