A meeting is scheduled for tomorrow at noon at Palazzo Marino for the final presentation of the public debate on the New San Siro Stadium.
La Gazzetta dello Sport report that Andrea Pillon – co-ordinator of the debate that began on 28 September – will illustrate what emerged from the ten meetings over the last 40 days. Milan and Inter will listen with interest and prepare for the next step, which will be essential to respect the roadmap prepared together.
A new approval from the Council of Milan is needed to get to the heart of the executive project, scheduled for the beginning of 2023, to then start work on the new facility in 2024. If everything goes smoothly, the two clubs could move to their new home starting from the 2027-2028 season.
Many things have changed since the presentation of the feasibility study such as the volumes permitted, the landscape of the urban area around, the future of the current San Siro, and even the shape of the ‘Cathedral’ designed by Populous which was first squared and then became an oval.
The current stadium was initially meant to be only partially demolished but that moved to a total demolition, something Mayor Beppe Sala conceded on after some hesitation to ‘prevent the two clubs from going elsewhere’.
Milan and Inter do not intend to go beyond the schedule they have set, meaning the two clubs want to be playing in their new home in a maximum of five years’ time, a stadium that will have a capacity of 65,000 seats, will cost €1.3bn and will be able to guarantee revenues of around €40m per year per club.
