AC Milan appear to now be lagging behind Real Madrid and Barcelona in the fight to sign Turkish youngster Arda Guler, a report claims.
As has been reported by La Gazzetta dello Sport (via Milan News), the two Spanish giants are now further along in their pursuit of the Fenerbahce attacking midfielder.
Milan have been extremely interested in signing him but various complications have arisen around the money involved and the fact that he would use up a non-EU registration spot. There were also suggestions that his dad is asking for a very big commission.
It is also very hard to compete with the interest from Real Madrid and Barcelona given they are financially stronger and will be serious candidates to win the Champions League next season.
The report suggests that Guler’s future is now almost certainly in Spain rather than Italy, although he could be loaned back to Fenerbahce after he chooses a new team.
There isn’t a race here – I suspect Milan asked the question, but it’s not something we can afford to spend a non-EU slot on right now.
This is when you need a director with clout to convince a guy to sign, not an accountant and a scout.
