GdS: Milan coaching staff see future of Saelemaekers in a new role – the details

By Oliver Fisher -

The AC Milan management believe that Alexis Saelemaekers has a future at right-back, according to a report.

Having arrived in January on loan with an option to buy, Saelemaekers managed to surprised everyone, favoured by the injury of Samu Castillejo. This game him playing time and it was enough to secure his stay at Milan, who exercised their option.

The 21-year-old quickly gained the trust of Pioli, fully adapting himself to the manager’s system. The No.56 was helped by Castillejo’s injury, which gave him the chance in the first place, but he has also looked more impressive than the Spaniard in the first few games of 2020-21.

According to Tuesday’s edition of La Gazzetta dello Sport (via MilanNews), the coaching staff at Milan believe the Belgium U21 international is destined to play the role of right-back, with great potential to adapt well to that position.

However, for now Davide Calabria is doing well there and is becoming increasingly reliable, meaning they can continue to experiment with Saelemaekers.
