GdS: Milan delay discussions over Donnarumma’s renewal as obstacle emerges

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan still have one major obstacle that they must overcome in order to secure the renewal of Gianluigi Donnarumma, according to a report.

It was another starring season for Donnarumma, who ended with 14 clean sheets in total, 12 in Serie A and two in the Coppa Italia, and now he will enjoy some well-deserved holidays before starting next season with Milan.

As La Gazzetta dello Sport notes on Monday morning (via MilanNews), the time has come to seriously think about his renewal with Milan as his contract expires in less than a year (30 June 2021).

The club know just how how important his extension is and they intend to get him sign the renewal as soon as possible, but there are other priorities at the moment – such as Ibrahimovic’s contract situation – meaning Milan will wait until the market is finished (on October 5) to face the Donnarumma situation.

The parties are still discussing the new contract, and despite the common desire to go forward together there is still the difficult question regarding a possible release clause.

Milan would like to insert a higher one than Mino Raiola would like, so it will be necessary to reach a compromise to avoid problems like there were back in 2017.
