GdS: Milan face tough negotiation to renew Theo and Bennacer due to €6m demands – the latest

By Oliver Fisher -

Journalist Carlo Laudisa has warned that AC Milan will not face a straightforward negotiation when it comes to the renewal of their other star players.

The well-known journalist for La Gazzetta dello Sport spoke during a YouTube video with Carlo Pellegatti (via MilanLive) and took stock of the renewals of Theo Hernandez and Ismael Bennacer.

After the Gianluigi Donnarumma and Hakan Calhanoglu departures and the currently ongoing saga surrounding Franck Kessie, multiple outlets have claimed the management have moved ahead of time to try and renew the French full-back and the Algerian midfielder, just as they did with Alexis Saelemaekers who renewed until 2026 last week.

Both Theo and Bennacer have a contract expiring in 2024 and the players have expressed a willingness to continue with the club’s current project. Both earn around €2m net per season but the bar has risen and demands of around €6m are expected

“Don’t be fooled, an agreement is not around the corner. Milan want to reach around 4 million euros. The issue will also be addressed with meetings in the new year,” he said.

On Simon Kjaer, Laudisa added that the Dane is waiting for a call and there is the will on both sides to carry on together, so there is very much movement on multiple fronts.

  1. 5 million for both with Appearance bonuses should be enough for both.We really need to win the Scudetto to earn more money to pay our players what they deserve.

  2. Both would get at least that in the PL. I think 4/5 plus easily fulfilled bonuses would be worth while. With Zlatan, Conti and Samu coming off the books Milan don’t need to be too stingy with these very important players.

  3. I miss the days where players were less greedy, the agents were less influential. Where money was not the sole purpose of being part of the game. If this is true Milan risk losing two key players and what started as a rebirth for Milan after the final decade of mismanagement by Berlu and Galliani, the travesty of the Li take-over and the initial years of the elliott take over.

Just when you think this is great Milan are on the right track the club is not quite where it needs to be now but 2-3 years of continuity and anything is possible. All this greed will destabilise the whole project for Milan and will inevitably hurt the sport of football itself when demands become so excessive (from players who deserve a fraction of their expectations) that all the professionalism is dying its seems being a professional is in seriously short supply.

We may never see the Milan of old again but credit to Maldini and Massara for trying to build that kind of Milan again. It is just a great shame that most footballers as soon as they get their first contract at 18 are less about the game and all about the money.

  4. They deserve 5m a year, but Need to set example by benching kessie until he renew or out,, don’t even put kessie on line up

  5. Milan can pen an pre-agreement with them. $6M renewal will be effective if Milan qualifies for Champions league again. This way Milan will not be at losing end and players will be motivated to play their best.

  6. Soon we will see what kind of club we are. Will Elliott pay those players market value when they outperform their contracts or will we keep wage restriction and risk them leaving. Will we be a feeder club that buys young talent only to sell or will we build something meaningful and return to past glory….time will tell.

  7. We are in the driving seat for negotiations with these players. If they don’t sign then sell when it suits us. They can earn 2m until we sell.

I don’t think they will get 6m anywhere else.

  8. Sell them asap. cos even Newcastle is hunting. 80 to 100m for theo and minimum 50m for Ben.
we cant continue losing players for free.

  9. Milan really need to step up their game if we are going to have any team left. Look around Europe, most players that aren’t as good as our boys earn 5x what our players earn.

We all know your gotta have a fat bank account and money to spend if u are ever going to have a competitive team, otherwise other clubs will come calling one day. E.g PSG, Man City, Chelsea and others.

The above mentioned players have earned their right to request for more, so pay them at least 5M each per year

  10. Donaruma left and he is not even playing now. Maignan made him look like a joke as Dollaruma is already forgotten in AC Milan. Same will be with Kessie. If Theo and Bennacer leave they too will not do well somewhere else. It is the magic of AC Milan that makes these players play well. Yes, they will earn more money in some other clubs but very soon if not immediately they will become just average players in an average club. Isn’t it better to be great player in great club like AC Milan!?
