GdS: Milan have the third youngest team in Europe by starting XI – the numbers

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan’s owners Elliott Management are still keen on relaunching the club through a project built around young players, a report claims.

As reported by this morning’s edition of La Gazzetta dello Sport (via MilanNews), Elliott intends to try and get Milan back on top through the recruitment and development of talent, and directors Paolo Maldini and Ricky Massara have moved in this direction.

Pioli did the same, working with the players available to try and build a core of youth for years to come. Milan – considering the average age of the starting XI – are the youngest team in the league at 24 years and 264 days. Spezia (25 years, 277 days) and Cagliari (26 years and 225 days) are in second and third respectively.

In Europe Milan are the third most youthful side, preceded by Nice (24 years, 16 days) and Stuttgart (24 years, 215 days). It is a sign that the project is very much underway.
