GdS: Comparing Milan and Inter’s start in 2023-24 to last season

AC Milan and Inter are the two teams leading the way in Serie A so far this season, but how does the start made by both teams compare to last season?

This morning’s edition of La Gazzetta dello Sport has compared the first seven games from 2023-24 to last season, starting with Milan. In 2022-23, the Rossoneri were on 4 wins, 2 draws and 1 loss. They had 13 goals scored and 8 goals conceded, with 14 points on the board.

Milan are on 6 wins and 1 defeat this season, with 15 goals scored and 8 goals conceded, and 18 points racked up. Four more points and two more goals scored therefore.

Looking at Inter, they are also on 6 wins and 1 defeat so far in the current campaign with 18 points obtained. They have scored 19 goals and have let 3 in.

Meanwhile, in 2022-23 they had 4 wins and 3 defeats at this stage, with 12 points on the board. They had scored 13 goals and allowed 11, meaning they have made a big improvement.

  1. It is too soon for prediction.

Most important thing is now 1) win as most possible points, because in second part of the season Milan should have “easier” schedule than in this first part.

    2) In second part we should have squad improvement as Ben Nacer should be returned and I hope in best possible shape.

    3) Possibility is that in second part we will be without Europe because now we are in group of death compared to Inter who have easier group.

    4) Milan must stay always focused. Even if we don’t manage to reach first goal – to have the smallest possible difference against Inter, we must stay focus cause in second part of season Inter, Juventus and Napoli, can start losing matches, and there is opportunity for Milan that with strong focus and will leverage the possible gap on table.

For now is OK but squad always must have imperative to win games.

  2. This simply goes to show we don’t know where either team will end up at the end of the season. Last year we were ahead at this stage, we ended up behind at the end. We’re both ahead now but Juve can easily end up top with Napoli at the end.. looooooong season ahead

  3. Just remember that last season close to having played half the matches milan had two points less than the scudetto wining year after playing just as many matches. Then came january and it all whent down spiralling.

  4. Our probably for the last few years has been, and still is, Inter. They are better than us, and have the mental & technically edge over our team. If don’t want to rely on Inter dropping points against other teams, we need to get over this hump and figure out a way to be better than Inter. Pioli and the team need to find the right system and right style of play to beat them.

    1. Inter aren’t better than us. We have collected the exact same number of points and a Scudetto whereas they have nothing to show for it.

Head to heads are not a measure or else Spezia are better than us as well.

      1. they studied every part of that system ahead of the champions league final and played city incredibly well. There are adjustments to make. I’m not sure id choose to press that high when i don’t have 3 of the best, mobile CBs in the world covering deep. But its a tricky thing to move too far from what is working in most games.

  5. Glad to see most of us are on the same page!

The big test will be when we suffer major set backs. We have had a major set back in the derby and the bounce back has been impressive. It bodes well for the rest of the season.
