GdS: Milan once again let down by leaders in Dortmund nightmare

By Oliver Fisher -

It should have been a dream evening and instead last night turned into a nightmare for AC Milan who are almost out of the 2023-24 Champions League.

In reality, there is still a small chance of reaching the last 16 but a real miracle will be needed. Milan will have to beat Newcastle United at St. James’ Park and hope that Borussia Dortmund – who have already qualified – win against PSG.

This morning’s edition of the newspaper La Gazzetta dello Sport (via MilanNews) comments that injuries always make everything even more complicated for the Rossoneri and another one arrived last night.

Malick Thiaw pulled up while chasing a man to the byline and now all the central defenders are out apart from Fikayo Tomori. Stefano Pioli was forced to put Rade Krunic at the centre of the rearguard after the German’s injury and it is really difficult to be competitive like this.

The paper makes the point that the team’s leaders were also missing. Theo Hernandez was once again disappointing and last night there were serious errors first on the part of Olivier Giroud, who missed a penalty after six minutes.

Mike Maignan was completely dumbfounded by Borussia Dortmund’s third goal after having produced a match-saving stop on Saturday against Fiorentina. In short, it was an evening to forget and now a real miracle is needed to reach the Champions League round of 16.

  1. No worries, the management will bring Badiashile, an injury-prone Chelsea reject, and David, a struggling striker. Why would they change the recipe? It’s working so well.

  2. Theo Hernandez looks like an ex player. No motivation, no hunger anymore, full of himself. One good game and 5-10 average performance on a row. Not a world class player. I will sell him with eyes closed next summer. Last summer was the perfect time, but hey…the algorithm… 😆😆
