GdS: Milan making a philosophical and economic assessment on potential Ilicic move

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan appear to be weighing up a possible move for Josip Ilicic with doubts over how it might affect the vision of the ownership, a report claims.

Ilicic is among the names that have been repeatedly linked with Milan in recent days, and La Gazzetta dello Sport reports how unlike Dusan Vlahovic – a concrete Milan target – the Slovenia international does not have a profile that corresponds to the identikit of the type of player that Elliott Management want to sign.

It is not so much a question of salary, but rather the fact that he is 33 years old, and although there have been exceptions to the philosophy of promoting only young players they cannot be infinite, otherwise they are no longer exceptions.

Ilicic would suit Pioli from a tactical point of view as in the 4-2-3-1 he would make the right side of the Rossoneri attack very dangerous, if deployed there, and he can also play as a playmaker. There could be some balance problems though that do not exist given Alexis Saelemaekers’ work rate. Therefore there is an economic and philosophical assessment to be made, but also a tactical one.
