GdS: Milan left reeling after derby defeat but Newcastle also have doubts

AC Milan could hardly be coming into the game against Newcastle United off the back of a worse result, but they face an opponent who are also in a delicate moment.

La Gazzetta dello Sport (via PianetaMilan) writes how Stefano Pioli’s side will have a great opportunity to show that the 5-1 derby defeat did not leave lasting psychological effects on the team.

The Rossoneri’s hopes of being a top team in Europe again rest on getting an immediate reaction against Newcastle United, a team with little experience in the Champions League given their last participation dates back 20 years.

Newcastle could be the ideal opponent for Milan at the present moment, moreso than PSG and Borussia Dortmund, as long as the Rossoneri find physicality, speed and depth in their game.

The Magpies are mid-table in the Premier League and have already lost to Manchester City, Liverpool and Brighton so far. They did beat Brentford 1-0 on Saturday, but they will also play without Joelinton in midfield.
