GdS: Milan offer two-year deal to Giroud – why he is not a contradiction to Elliott’s project

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan have identified Olivier Giroud as the ideal deputy to Zlatan Ibrahimovic and are in talks over a deal with the striker, a report claims.

As reported in today’s edition of La Gazzetta dello Sport (via MilanNews), contacts with Frenchman are continuous as he gets ready to leave Chelsea on a free transfer. Milan actually moved a month ago to offer for a two-year contract to the veteran, but he received proposals from Spain and England, a country to which he is very attached.

The obstacle has always been the high number of suitors and the risk that an auction of sorts could be triggered, but Milan are the favourites to land him. Despite being 34, Giroud’s arrive would not be a contradiction of the club’s strategy based on young players because his contract is expiring so it is a low cost investment to increase the experience within the squad.
