GdS: Milan on the hunt for second place in Monza as Pioli opts for changes

By Oliver Fisher -

Stefano Pioli hopes that by 22:45 CET tonight, his AC Milan side are celebrating taking second spot from Juventus outright as they face Monza away from home.

As La Gazzetta dello Sport (seen below) recall, Milan would rise to 55 points with a win tonight, which would be eight points from Inter still but one ahead of Juventus. At the end of January they were seven behind Allegri’s men, so the speed of the turnaround is impressive.

How did it happen? Well, partly it’s the mysteries of football, partly there’s a logical explanation. Juve have halted, perhaps after losing that huge game against Inter, while Milan are physically well and have an impressive attack.

The Rossoneri are scoring a lot, creating more, and finding goals from midfield and attack. Speaking of which, there will be a change up front as the Pulisic-Giroud-Leao trio will be broken up after nine starts in a row. Noah Okafor will play on the right and Luka Jovic will be up front.

Giroud will have a rest after playing for 90 minutes against Rennes, as is logical to expect from a 37-year-old who already has more than 2,000 minutes under his belt.

In defence there will be an alteration too because Malick  Thiaw returns to the starting lineup after his long injury. In midfield, where Ismael Bennacer and Yacine Adli will take the place of Tijjani Reijnders and Yunus Musah.

Rafa deserves a few words. On Thursday against Rennes he asked for a substitution and caused Milan to worry about a blow to a calf, a very delicate muscle, but he is ok and now must aim to end his league goal drought which has been going since September 23rd.
