GdS: Milan hold new positive meeting as Cardinale prepares €1bn investment

By Isak Möller -

AC Milan intend to build their own stadium and it seems the area has been chosen for the project. In fact, new meetings have been held in the last few days, with the €1bn project now moving forward.

As reported by today’s edition of Gazzetta Dello Sport, Milan are more and more keen on building their new stadium in San Donato. The area, for reasons explained below, is perfect and the Rossoneri have now also separated themselves from Inter.

The San Francesco area is the one in question, which lies within San Donato. The area is well-connected by not just the metro but also the train, and the highway makes for easy access by car. Furthermore, Linate airport is very close which is good for those travelling from abroad.

Yesterday, as the report continues, CAA ICON – Milan’s consultants for the stadium – had a meeting with the city council of San Donato. The latter were fascinated by the idea and expressed their support, even if a feasibility study must be carried out too.

For Cardinale and his team, the stadium project will require hundreds, if not thousands, of pages of contracts, attachments, and articles. This process could thus take a couple of years, before starting the actual work in the area.

The whole project will cost around €1bn and Cardinale believes this is a necessary step for Milan. Allianz Arena, Bayern Munich’s home, is located in a similar are and will be a great source of inspiration for Milan in their pursuit.

The San Francesco area is the first thing you encounter when you travel to Milan from the south. The naming rights for the stadium, as Allianz with Bayern, could thus be a hot commodity and that’s another positive with the area.

Finally, the area is privately owned and has always been meant to be of sporting use.

  1. Ndicka just went to Roma. He snubbed a CL team for an EL team. Good thing we got rid of a legend in Maldini know for his ability to convince good players to join to keep pioli who can’t land a free agent defender….things are looking up everyone!

    1. Ndicka will have a starting XI spot in Roma, but he would be only a rotational player here. Its obvious he choosed Roma for more gametime

    2. Good, we have Tomori and Kalulu who produced one of best defence display stats wisr in our Scudetto season. Kjaer as our senator and Thiaw a monster in the making. Gabbia to cover. That’s enough.

      1. It’s funny that they believe that Maldini is good at convincing players and Pioli is not, but Maldini failed to convince this same player to sign for Milan last summer when Milan was even willing to pay transfer fee for him.

  2. If nothing else, the new ownership are intent on improving the commercial side of things. They have a vision and we just need to be patient and see where he is taking the team. The balancing act is commercial as well as sporting results, which go hand in hand. I don’t think he is stupid enough to emphasize the one at the expense of the other. Let’s sit back and enjoy this ride…

    1. If we analyse further, Jerry is not making a gift. He’s responsible of a hedge funds, where multi-millionaires and billionaires put their money to get the most interests. They want results. So Jerry is loaning 1B to Milan. With obviously a hefty interest rate. Here I’m not saying it’s a bad thing, because Milan would have to loan this money anyway. Jerry will make a lot of profits from this loan. Money out of nothing, Wall Street style.

The concern is that we are never speaking of winning. Jerry doesn’t even know the game. Of course, it’s better for the business if the team wins, but it’s not the final purpose, which is to earn the most money. See Manchester United. They are winning nothing, and yet the club bought 1.2B will be sold for 7-8B this year. This is all about building a powerful brand. This is how American owners see football clubs nowadays, and Milan is no exception. So we can just hope that the club can win something while the owner is just happy making money.

      1. Redbird is not hedgefund. It is a private investment firm. The investor invest in Redbird, in turn, Redbird invest in Milan. So it is not a loan.

        1. Exactly you’re right, my bad, thanks. RedBird is a different kind of money maker, they rely on longer holding periods to make profits when they resell. Like Elliott did.

The point is Jerry doesn’t care about the game or winning, he just wants to raise the value of the club for profits. It’s more about building a brand than winning something. And it’s sad for football fans.

          1. You know who cared about WInning? Berlusconi… It did get us trophies, sure. And also MASSIVE DEBTS and almost a decade of irrelevance… OH and to top that off, it got us sold to a SHADY CHINESE ownership, which got us into Elliott’s hands and now RedBird….

SO yea, talk about owners that want to win.

          2. When our brand get big enough, we can be sustainable, having large transfer and salary budget without the need of cash injection from owner.

      2. There’s no way he can make the club more profitable and better on the field. Because the most valuable clubs are usually trash, right?

        1. Yes, you’re right. Jerry is dreaming day and night of winning trophies. He lives for this sole purpose since he discovered football one year ago. All hail Jerry.

      3. You’re speculating. A LOT. Like Gerry is your best pal… like you grew up together… without Gerry having even done anything. Judge him after a season or two or three. You’re such a Negative Nancy, man. What are you huffing and puffing about…. “Oh Gerry is this…. Oh Gerry is that….” Making useless parallels with Man Utd….. FFS!

        1. Berlusconi bought the club for political purpose, but he was also a true Milan fan and he respected traditions and had a winning spirit. Football changed, he didn’t want to spend money, so it went bad as we all know. But when he was involved, he brought established players like Nesta, Shevchenko, Seedorf, Inzaghi, etc. the list is long.

Now you say Jerry hasn’t done anything. The events of this week prove you’re wrong. There is no class and respect. Also, see Toulouse which is another toy of Jerry. The fanbases of Milan and Toulouse, both owned by him, are upset this week. The parallel with Manchester United is that it’s the same kind of ownership, with the aim to make profits. No sport ambitions but business ambitions.

Anyway we’re all saying the same stuff for the past few days, I’ll stick with my opinion. But I’m glad you’re appeased by the recruiting of Tielemans, a guy nobody seems to want, or that NDicka prefers to go to an UEL bound team than Milan. Let’s see if “protected” Leao or Theo are sold to buy some no names.

          1. Berlusconi spent like a drunken sailor on transfers at Milan! He sold because he was running out of money and his Bunga indiscretions were coming through the courts. You can have respect for tradition of the club but that doesn’t mean you have to give a job to every former player. Be reasonable. Nobody crying about Seedorf or Gattuso getting the sack as managers, because they didn’t perform. This man buys Milan and is now investing one billion dollars to get us a new stadium which we desperately need, and make the club bigger and better and you are just crying a river. Your stance is totally illogical.

          2. @Flossonero

Haha drunken sailor, good one! I disagree a bit though, Berlusconi was the owner for more than 20 years. Football suddenly changed with the arrival of billionaires like Abramovitch, while Real Madrid was state-backed and Barcelona bank-backed. There was also the financial crisis in 2007. Berlusconi didn’t want to spend anymore since he had no political aspirations anymore at this time, considering his legal troubles. Do you remember his strategy of “parametro zero”? Only free agents or cheap players. It was tough, I have to admit, and it was dark times for us Milan fans.

Now, let’s see but the first signals are not great. Maldini’s confusing firing, then the low budget, the players targeted, all the players sellable, etc.. I would hate to see Leao or Theo leave right now. We are close to a return to European relevance and Italian prominence, we need a solid recruitment and to keep our best players.

  3. Another missed opportunity to sign a good player on zero transfer. What will we do if don’t land our primary summer targets.

      1. Lol no… I f he has the answer then he would know cdk is playing in the wrong position and also put adli in that position because he’s more fitting in CAM position

  4. If he can build stadium for AC Milan that will more worth than signing player with huge fee. San donato are strategic location

  5. This management, of Furlani and Moncada is an expert in handling a football club and been handling legendary clubs like Milan for decades.. Lmfao

Gerry is the god of Football owners, who isn’t here for the sole purpose of making money but to WIN ‘Soccer’ UCL that he cares About more than his own life. Gerry knows exactly how valuable a UCL trophy is to all his fellow Americans investors, along with their deep emotions about.. SOCCER that is the most POPULAR sport in USA. lmfao

Gerry knows the history of Milan more than ANYONE Else in the planet and wants to DO everything to bring the club to glory because THAT’s what he is here for. Nothing else. Money comes and goes.. But GLORY is what matters to an American worth 200 mil who is using the money of others to Bring MILAN back to glory because that’s how much Gerry LOOOOOVES The club since the day he was generated as that fast swimmer in his father’s sack. LOL

BILLY BEANE is the ONE WHO Invented ANALYTICS in soccer. No one used it before and doesn’t use it now EXCEPT BILLY BEANE.

Every Decision Gerry makes must be the best for the club to win trophies and not to make money. LOL

The fact that they can’t handle a PR crisis and can’t even settle on ONE narrative for the club’s goal is PART of their plan. LULZ

Apparently we are linked with a 90mil priced SImakan and a 60 mil priced Chukwueze who is liked by RM to build a ‘competitive’ team. That is never a PR stunt. We are swimming in money actually. lmfao

Pioli is the best thing Happened to this planet since the arrival of humankind. LOL

GERRY Will invest 1bn for a stadium project. It’s TOTALLY NOT a PR stunt. Bayerns Allianz Arena costed about 250 mil, Eithad Arena about 120 mil. BUT MILAN Will build the 1bn stadium in the planet for the first time with Gerry printing money in his backyards specially when he could barely pay his 650 mil of 1.2bn he is supposed to pay to Elliot by begging every one in wallstreet for investment.

Fans must believe all of these FACTS blindly with no questions asked about our Lord and Savior Gerry! If not.. you are no Milan fan and A MALDINI Fanboy. lol

Instead of awful AWFUL pathetic PR Campaigns.. Gerry should so something that at least means his intentions are something more than just making money. Like Hiring someone credible to Run the club in a crisis moment instead of a nobody like Furlani who only knows Money!

    1. It seems you cannot move on . It is not supporting gery but supporting AC Milan as club. If you continue every day like this you will make your life full of hate. . It is not about who wrong or true but owner & Maldini dont have same vision anymore. You cannot just forcing your vision or your will to owner. Maldini want full power control of transfer market without need discuss to other like moncada & furlani , Maldini want full control like galliani in the past while Gery want Maldini discuss with furlani & moncada in transfer market. Both Gery & Maldini dont have same vision , it is not who is true or wrong . Of course for you it is Maldini the hero here but Maldini not owner , maybe some years later when owner changing, they will hire Maldini again

      1. I don’t think I am trying to force anything anywhere. I researched Cardinale, and it’s clear that his intentions has nothing to do with winning but making as much money he can for investors.

I know some fans agree with me, some don’t. That’s alright. Fans have their own opinions and that debate is good I believe. But as a fan who spends a significant money on my beloved club, I have the rights to make fun of an owner who has no idea about football And I don’t mean it lightly,

Cardinale literally has no idea about football. I am sure it will come out sooner or later. His the first four decisions should be enough of an indicator. 1. Firing maldini for no reason (not just me, every legend of Milan said it). 2. Appointing Furlani(basically an assistant to gazidis) as the head of the club. 3. Declaring it openly to management that every player of the club is on transfer list. 4. involving Pioli in management decisions.

Just because as a fan I am powerless to do anything doesn’t mean I won’t protest the stupidity of an owner, right? You as a Milan fan can argue with me that those are good decisions.. but in reality, we ALL know those are just messups of a colossal magnitude.
