GdS: Milan player ratings from Atalanta win – seven players score 7 or more

By Oliver Fisher -

A number of AC Milan players impressed during last night’s win over top four rivals Atalanta, and La Gazzetta dello Sport have rightly given them praise.

This morning’s edition of the paper (as seen below) has their ratings from the game last night, starting with the overall performance of the team which was deemed worthy of a 7 out of 10, while Stefano Pioli’s management got a 7.5.

The best player on the park for Milan was Theo Hernandez who had a big hand in the opening goal and received a 7.5, while Rafael Leao was adjudged to be the worst and he got a 5.5.

Mike Maignan had a quiet return to action and scored a 6, which was largely down to the fact that Pierre Kalulu (7), Malick Thiaw (7.5) and Fikayo Tomori (7) all put in almost faultless shifts.

Junior Messias – the scorer of the second goal – also scored a 7, as did Rade Krunic and Sandro Tonali in the double pivot. Brahim Diaz and Olivier Giroud each got a 6.5 to complete the starting XI.

In terms of the substitutions, both Zlatan Ibrahimovic (making his return after nine months out) and Charles De Ketelaere each scored 6.

  1. Interesting game with Leao just 5,5. He only managed to provide assist, but in that goal only Messias did more of needed. It would be interesting Milan without Leao. Because in last many games Leao is only name on the paper and not our best player in the games.

    1. We’ll see how the team performs this weekend without Leao. It’s obvious that they’ll play more as a team where everyone contributes to attacking AND defending. I bet Rebic will run more miles against Viola than Leao has run this year all combined.

    2. I think that 5.5 is a very reactionary rating – Leao put two chances on a plate, one directly for Giroud (where he scooped over) and one indirectly when Messias skied it inexplicably.

He wasn’t at his peak, but IMO the rating is very harsh

    1. Tonali does a lot of things people don’t notice. Like defusing a lot of counter attack bys attacking the player with the ball and preventing dangerous passes.

      1. Yeah and after defusing the counter attack he gives them ball back with his bad passes … the guy cant complete a forward pass to save his life . And he didnt deserve the same rating as kalulu and krunic.
