GdS: Milan player ratings for Inter loss – attack far from good enough

By Oliver Fisher -

It was always going to be a tall order for AC Milan to overhaul the first leg deficit against Inter and reach the final, but they never really got close to doing so.

This morning’s edition of La Gazzetta dello Sport (as seen below) has their ratings for the game, starting with Milan’s overall performance and the management of Stefano Pioli, both of which earned a meagre 5 out of 10.

The best player on the pitch for the Rossoneri was Sandro Tonali who got a 6.5 for being the last to give up on the cause, while Brahim Diaz was awarded a 4.5 as he lost possession frequently and struggled to affect the game.

The defensive quartet of Mike Maignan, Davide Calabria, Malick Thiaw and Fikayo Tomori each got a 6, but Theo Hernandez again disappointed and was awarded a 5.

Rade Krunic got a 6, while moving into a struggling attack Junior Messias got a 5.5, Rafael Leao a 5 and Olivier Giroud the same.

Pierre Kalulu was the only substitute to play enough for a rating and he got a 4.5 for a lack of concentration that led to Lautaro’s goal which ended the tie.

  1. Fair ratings. Basically noone did a good match. They closed us down completeny. I think the team lacked ideas and determination. I think especially in the second half there was no push, no motivation. They seemed to have given up already at 65 minutes.

And another thing that really bothered me was the balls into the area. Almost none were of good quality. Always to long och to low. The few attackers we had in the box almost got nothing to work with.

    Really a depressing game.
