GdS: Milan player ratings for RB Salzburg win – nine players score 7+

By Oliver Fisher -

A number of AC Milan players received big praise after they beat Red Bull Salzburg 4-0 to reach the Champions League last 16.

This morning’s edition of La Gazzetta dello Sport has their ratings from the game, starting with the team getting an overall score of 8 and head coach Stefano Pioli getting the same score.

The paper have picked Olivier Giroud out as the man of the match with a mark of 8 after he got two goals and two assists in another decisive big-game performance, while substitute Tommaso Pobega (6) got the lowest score.

In the rearguard, Ciprian Tatarusanu (6.5), Pierre Kalulu (7), Simon Kjaer (7), Fikayo Tomori (7) and Theo Hernandez (8) all impressed in helping to keep a clean sheet.

Sandro Tonali and Ismael Bennacer each received a score of 7 in the double pivot, with Rade Krunic getting a 7.5 after taking up an attacking midfielder role.

Ante Rebic got a 6.5 and Rafael Leao was given a 7, while finally Charles De Ketelaere (6) and Junior Messias (6.5) came off the bench with the latter scoring the final goal.

  1. Tata got 6.5!!!! , why?! , he should be at least 8 , he saved us in the first half and kept a clean sheet , what more should he do play offence! whoever did the rating is a moron .

  2. I am a big fan of Tonali and I don’t share at all the criticism of some fellow fans here but his rating is too generous, especially compared to Bennacer.

    1. GdS always rates Tonali highet than he deserves because he’s italian. But how can Giroud an Theo both get an 8? If Theo deserves 8 than Giroud deserves 9.5 for that game. What more can a player do in game?

      1. Without Tonali, Milan won’t be scoring any goals. Goals that Giroud scored too, you can thank Tonali because the attack starts with his movement. I don’t know what game some people watch!. Giroud is the final player who gets the touch (as he is a striker), but Milan’s attack starts with Tonali who involves Rebic, Leao and Theo by intelligently passing to them in areas where they can attack the penalty zone. The 1st goal was purely due to Tonali’s supreme corner kick, landed right onto Giroud’s head who did not even need to move an inch. Tonali deserves a 9 every match, because he is the most consistent player alongside Bennacer. Please stop nonsense theories, because I feel he is underappreciated. He is a midfield genius. And Theo is a LB, the amount he runs just to allow Giroud a tap in, is what creates goals. Giroud was good too yesterday, but without the likes of Bennacer, Tonali, Theo, Leao and Rebic, this side would not even win against a team like Salzburg. You saw what happened at Torino, when Pobega played in Tonali’s role and Messias started instead of Rebic and Leao subbed… Milan lost to a mid-table team. So don’t think Giroud is the one making Milan win, because there are others who are doing 10x times more work to allow him a simple finish! Learn to appreciate the entire buildup leading to a goal, not just the one who gets the last touch or assist.
