GdS: Milan player ratings for win against Sassuolo – Bennacer and Pulisic impress

By Euan Burns -

AC Milan managed to end 2023 with a victory over Sassuolo which keeps them three points ahead of Fiorentina and five ahead of Bologna in the race to finish in the top four of Serie A.

The win at San Siro was much-needed considering the Rossoneri have been in poor form and there were many suggestions that Stefano Pioli could lose his job if the Neroverdi got all three points.

It certainly wasn’t a vintage performance from the Rossoneri but the three points were perhaps what really mattered on Saturday.

Today’s edition of Gazzetta dello Sport (see photo below) has analysed the player performances and decided that Ismael Bennacer and Christian Pulisic were the best performances for Milan. They both got 7/10 and the latter was the scorer of Milan’s goal.

There were a number of players who put in very respectable, if not special, performances. Mike Maignan, Simon Kjaer, Alessandro Florenzi, Davide Calabria and Theo Hernandez all got 6.5 out of 10 for their efforts.

It was a game in which many players got the basics right and nothing more, which is why Tijjani Reijnders, Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Yacine Adli and debutant Kevin Zeroli all got 6/10.

It was certainly not a vintage performance from the ineffectual Olivier Giroud who got 5.5, whilst Rafael Leao was the lowest-rated player with 5/10. He was jeered off by some supporters when substituted.

  1. They watch football! Unlike this site authors. Bennacer is MOTM and Puli great. In that order. Adli should have even lower score but then Leao should get 3 which is unfair 😂
