GdS: Attendance highs and demographic growth – Milan’s San Siro numbers for 2023

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan will play their last game of 2023 in front of over 70,000 fans at San Siro tomorrow night against Sassuolo, and it has certainly been a year of growth.

According to this morning’s edition of La Gazzetta dello Sport (seen below), tomorrow San Siro will close an impressive calendar year, with the great support inherited from the Scudetto and continued through ups and downs.

The stadium will be sold out for Milan-Sassuolo obviously excluding the away sector – it was anything but a given on the day before New Year’s Eve, with the match at 18:00 CET – and confirms an impressive trend. The average spectators in all competitions in 2023 is 71,957 spectators (Opta data).

You have to go back to 1993 to find similar participation: not even Ancelotti in his golden years had 70,000 people constantly behind him, and these excellent numbers are not just restricted to the male demographic.

San Siro hosted almost two million spectators in 2023, with growth in three key demographic areas for the club: women, the U20s and the international audience. The female presence among spectators has risen to 21% (+3% compared to 2022), the Under 20s are at 19% (+3% compared to last year), spectators from abroad have almost doubled: from 14% to 27%.

Milan have also focused heavily on Club 1899, the luxury hospitality areas historically offered to companies, now also available to private individuals. There is great satisfaction over the 12,000 tickets sold, with Milan-Juventus the most successful match.

On a side note, two figures from the American market: video views on social media from the United States have tripled, access to the site from the States has increased by 298%.

  1. “video views on social media from the United States have tripled, access to the site from the States has increased by 298%”
Pulisic is probably the reason for this. His social media numbers are huge
