GdS: ‘The new Devil’ – third signing imminent as Milan and Spurs agree €15m deal

AC Milan are about to complete their third signing of the summer as Emerson Royal should be made official in the next few days, a report claims.

After Alvaro Morata and Strahinja Pavlovic, La Gazzetta dello Sport report that Milan have secured the full-back they wanted, someone who will come in and challenge the captain Davide Calabria for a starting spot.

The negotiations also took time, more than the player himself would have liked. The parties are very close at present and the green light to organise the transfer is expected within hours, with the exchanging of documents and the booking of his medical to follow.

Emerson, a Brazilian from San Paolo, does not have an EU passport which means that after Pavlovic he is the second non-EU player that will be registered. As per the Serie A regulations, it will not be possible to sign a third.

The negotiations to bring Emerson to Milan began with the request of Paulo Fonseca to sign a new right-back and his approval of the Brazilian, who he believes is the ‘perfect reinforcement’ for the flank.

What followed was a long negotiation between the clubs, who started from very distant positions. Milan offered just over €10m, while Tottenham asked for €25m which is what they paid to sign him. The clubs got closer and closer, agreeing on a fixed €15m plus bonuses.

The conclusion is just around the corner, and everyone will be satisfied. The player put Milan at the top of his wish list and his will was decisive, while Fonseca is satisfied he has the player he wanted and the management also secured a deal they are happy with.

Emerson was a fundamental player in Conte’s Tottenham (also a starter in the double Champions League clash against Milan on 2022-23) but less important after the arrival of Postecoglou. Now, Fonseca wants to relaunch him.

  1. Matteo Moretto says deal done for around 15 mil, bonuses included.
25 mil asking price and you get the deal done for just about half that is a great negotiating by Milan.
Not the RB most of us want but it was a need that they had to address. Let’s see if it works out. There has to be a reason this guy had 10 caps for the Brazil NT

    1. “There has to be a reason this guy had 10 caps for the Brazil NT”
10 caps in 6 years in one of the most mediocre Brazilian NT I’ve ever seen. Those 15M€ could have been used in a better way.
But anyways, now he is our player and we have no choice but to support him.

  2. unnecessary, strange signing.

Wasting what little funds we have on yet another RB.

It’s going to result in us either selling or benching good solid, proven players like Calabria (our captain) and Kalulu.
Not to mention Jimenez who we just signed permanently

    It seems very disruptive

If this was some super star RB you might understand they were seizing an opportunity, but this guy is mediocre at best!

  3. Not keen about Milan getting him and Abraham. But, if the coach can work his magic, good for us. We are not paying so much for him. With what I have seen in the preseason games, the attack has improved. With Emerson, Pavlovic, and maybe, Fofana, the midfield and defense, may improve

  4. Deal imminent.
    Deal almost there.
    Closure close
Deal will be sealed within the next 24/48/72 hours
