GdS: Milan’s gamble on full-back pays off – he is a symbol of the project and worth more than double

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan decided to take a calculated gamble on the signing of Theo Hernandez from Real Madrid back in summer 2019, but it looks to have paid off.

As La Gazzetta dello Sport reports (via Calciomercato.com), Theo is now regarded as a ‘treasure’ of the Milan project and for the moment he is without doubt one of the most successful investments made by Elliott Management.

The decision was made to spend €20million on him back in the summer of 2019, but Theo is already worth more than double. His impact on the team – after a first months of an adaptation to Italian football and a few injuries – was very impressive, as he established himself as a match winner on his day.

Theo is practically the only player of the Rossoneri squad who does not have a replacement. Diogo Dalot did his utmost both on the right and left flank, but there is no pressure on Theo in terms of losing his place. Even if France boss Didier Deschamps insists not to call him up, Hernandez’s value has risen up to €50m.

  1. But terrible defensively! Milan has lost the most points down his flank. Hope he improves defensively in the future like Marcelo
