GdS: Formation change and a counterpart – Milan’s plan to win Frattesi race

AC Milan are ready to make a concrete attempt to sign Davide Frattesi from Sassuolo and could use a counterpart to try and land him, a report claims.

This morning’s edition of La Gazzetta dello Sport (seen below) writes that a negotiation will take place today between Milan’s CEO Giorgio Furlani and his Sassuolo counterpart Giovanni Carnevali.

Now that Sandro Tonali has officially left for Newcastle United and Ismael Bennacer is out for a long time due to injury, the midfield is in need of a rebuild and Ruben Loftus-Cheek is so far the only brick in the new building site.

Frattesi is considered as an ideal profile because of his age and his characteristics. He scored seven goals in the league last season, one of which was at San Siro in the historic 5-2 against the Rossoneri.

Pioli is ready to redesign Milan and change from the 4-2-3-1 that was the trademark of his Scudetto-winning side to a tailor-made 4-3-3, given that the 23-year-old himself expressed a preference to play in a three-man midfield.

However, at present Milan consider Sassuolo’s asking price excessive so negotiations are needed to try and find the right conditions, all while Inter seem to be focusing more on Lazar Samardzic.

Sassuolo began by asking for €40m and that dropped to €35m over the course of the recent period, with Inter only ever offering €23m plus Mulattieri as a counterpart who was being valued at €8m, but it was not enough.

The delay in selling Marcelo Brozovic to Saudi Arabia did not help the Nerazzurri and it is now Milan who are counting on making their time advantage count, given the liquidity they have from Tonali’s sale too.

Lorenzo Colombo could come into the negotiations as a potential counterpart albeit with a valuation that is yet to be agreed upon between the two clubs.

Meanwhile, Roma are still in the running and they have a 30% resale clause which essentially gives them a discount. The Giallorossi are joining by Napoli and the player has asked for time to think, with the allure of playing in the Champions League obvious.

    1. Why not all 3!!!, We have the Tonali money and it is the least the management owe the fans, will also ignite season tickets sales and packed out stadium!!

Win win as I can see

  1. No. We need to sign an Italian player and Fratessi fits the bill. And I believe we should sign all three. Bennacer is going to be out for a long period and Tonali is gone.

  2. Personally, I prefer midfielders that score goals. So, Frattesi, Kamada, are first priority. Don’t mind if they can get them all. A good attacking winger, and a brilliant striker, will do. If they have to sell Kalulu to build a better team than last season’s, no qualms, as long as they sell him to a club where he can continue his progress.

  3. PASS. 40M?? LOL. AND a change in formation just for Frattesi????? We are talking about Fratesi right? Change formation for this guy and give up Columbo?? We are talking about Frattesi not SMS right???Hahahahahahaha!! Ya brilliant idea 🤪🤪
