GdS: Pioli chooses to protect Tonali with selection – his permanent stay is almost certain

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan boss Stefano Pioli is planning on keeping Sandro Tonali fresh for the game against Roma, while his future is not in doubt.

According to this morning’s edition of La Gazzetta dello Sport (via MilanNews), Tonali will star the game against Red Star tonight on the bench, but this is because Pioli wants to keep him at 100% for the big game at the Stadio Olimpico against Roma.

It is not that the Italy international has been dropped, more that it is important to protect the available midfielders while waiting for Ismael Bennacer’s return, and the first choice in the midfield to partner Kessie remains Tonali over Meite.

This morning’s edition of La Gazzetta dello Sport (via MilanPress) takes a look at the situation of Brahim Diaz, Diogo Dalot, Soualiho Meite, Fikayo Tomori and Tonali, all of whom will not remain beyond June unless Milan choose to sign them permanently.

Regarding Tonali, the permanent signing of the midfielder from Brescia for €15m is almost certain – the paper adds – bearing in mind that a substantial €10m loan fee has already been agreed.
