GdS: Pioli ‘makes his verdict’ on Leao after Lecce and Roma games

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan boss Stefano Pioli is ready to bench striker Rafael Leao in favour of Krzysztof Piatek for the game against SPAL, reports claim.

Leao’s performances in the last two games against Lecce and Roma respectively – the first two under Pioli’s tutelage – have been a mixed bag.

The Portugal U21 international was very lively against the former, particularly in the first half, but it would be fair to say he was wasteful of the good chances that were created for him.

Leao still got the nod to start up front against Roma but proved to be largely ineffectual, something which La Gazzetta dello Sport report has caused Pioli to make a judgement call.

The 53-year-old will start Piatek as the centre-forward against SPAL in the hopes of getting him back into form, while Leao is expected to start on the bench.

The report claims that this verdict is certainly not final but rather peremptory: the former Lille star is nice to look at, but for now he remains a ‘project’, while Milan have other needs at present.
