GdS: Pioli relies on Leao and Rebic to shine but recent performances worry Milan

Milan will be without their big star Zlatan Ibrahimovic yet again tomorrow, as the Swede hasn’t recovered from his injury. He could miss the first leg vs. Man Utd as well, but now the Rossoneri need to focus on Hellas Verona.

Ivan Juric’s side have impressed this season and currently sit in 9th place, having drawn against Juventus last weekend. Stefano Pioli, meanwhile, will have to rely on Ante Rebic and Rafael Leao attacking-wise tomorrow.

As highlighted by Gazzetta Dello Sport (via MilanNews.it), the manager has great trust in the duo but it’s safe to say that the partnership hasn’t taken off. In fact, the recent period hasn’t exactly been positive, bar a few bright spells.

Leao hasn’t found the back of the net since early January and has been disappointing in the seven games since. Rebic has done a tad better goal-wise, with four goals in 2021, but he still has delivered inconsistent performances.

Of course, Pioli is hoping that the two will step it up amid the mini-injury crisis, perhaps with the duo switching roles during the game to add some unpredictability. Either way, especially for the Portuguese, goals need to be scored.
