Sky: Probable Milan XI to face Torino – Thiaw and Saelemaekers tipped to start

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan head coach Stefano Pioli should make some significant changes to his starting XI for the game against Torino tomorrow compared to the team that lost to Inter.

According to Sky (via MilanNews), Pioli is expected to name a three-man defence again consisting of Malick Thiaw, Simon Kjaer and Pierre Kalulu ahead of Ciprian Tatarusanu, meaning Matteo Gabbia would drop to the bench.

Instead of the 3-5-2 fielded in the derby it should be more of a 3-4-3 with the midfield double pivot made up of Sandro Tonali and Rade Krunic given Ismael Bennacer’s injury, with Alexis Saelemaekers (preferred to Davide Calabria) and Theo Hernandez flanking them.

Brahim Diaz should come back into the line-up and play on the right of the front three, which should be completed by Rafael Leao on the opposite side and Olivier Giroud as the centre-forward.

Probable Milan XI (3-4-3): Tatarusanu; Thiaw, Kjaer, Kalulu; Saelemaekers, Tonali, Krunic, Theo Hernandez; Diaz, Giroud, Leao.

  1. This formation if everyone were healthy:

    —————————Maignan———————-

    ——–Kalulu———-Tomori———–Thiaw—–

    Calabria——-Tonali——-Bennacer—-Theo–

    ———CDK——Zlatan/Giroud———Leao—–

    Not bad looking at all….

I think CDK would benefit from playing alongside Zlatan and so would Leao

  2. Drop Kjaer for Gabbia please. At least he can improve with consistent playtime and has mainly been good this season barring a few bad games like everyone else on the team, Kjaer is at his end soon. Otherwise I agree with Thiaw and Kalulu starting.

  3. I think the formation looks good ..I think that pairing Giroud alongside Rafeol Leao will work against Torino.
Only thing I would like maybe to see different is Salamakers to be included in the line up ,he always tries to put crosses into the danger area.
I am convinced that at last we will win a game …
I also think that when we win this game ,we will have confidence and belief come back into the team .
We are not a bad side at all ,all teams can have dry spells ,just look at Liverpool in the premiership ship in England …Even Man City look at bit shaky in the last few games ..We won the scuddeto last season with much the same squad as we have now !
We have a very good manager in Stefani pioli …
I have confidence in him and in in our team AC Milan .
I also have faith in the ability of Olivier Giroud goals will come again …I also believe we can still finish in the top four this season ,and that we will beat Tottenham in the champions leauge .so please fans remain hopeful and optimistic.

  4. 3-4-3 could work. But it requires a proper 3 at the top, RF-CF-LF. Not Diaz in a trequartista role, except as and when the intricacies of the game so demands.
Krunic was okay against Inter, but Bennacer could make this even better. A fit and in-form Tomori in defence with Thiaw and Kalulu and fit and in-form Rebic as CF looks promising.
